Captain Invictus

Thankfully, after practically pulling an all-nighter on Friday night filled with much swearing and cursing, I finished him in time!.

I give you the late First Captain Heracles Maximus Saul Invictus, Regent of Ultramar and Hero of the Battle of Macragge.

Sadly, he didn't even place but hey, it was worth a shot, and I'm happy with him regardless.

Captain Invictus WIP VI

The nights are drawing in now and it's taking a lot longer than expected to get the basecoat done. Hopefully, everything else will take a lot less time (fingers crossed). Only three more days to go! I really hope I get this done in time!

Captain Invictus WIP V

Today was a frustrating day!
I spent most of last night filing down a screw (see if you can spot it in the pictures) and I assembled it all this morning. I had one last thing to do which was to attach the guitar strings to the plasma blaster and body. Hours later and the guitar strings are ruined and the back banner and hydrogen canister's come off! Another few hours and it's finally finished much later than I'd've liked. I'd been hoping to get him undercoated and basecoated by this evening but it's getting dark now and I find it difficult to paint without natural light.

He's outside now with the black undercoat drying so I'm going to have to wait till tomorrow to start painting. It's going to be a hectic week! Apologies for the unedited pictures; I'm in a bit of a hurry.

Captain Invictus WIP IV

The plasma blaster (probably the most unique feature of Invictus) is finally finished. Added a bayonet taken from a Dark Eldar helmet and a winged skull from the Forge World Ultramarines brass etch. The body and shoulders are filed down too.

Also, took a picture of the flamer from Squad Epsilon just to prove I'm not twiddling my thumbs when it comes to them.

Captain Invictus Progress

No pictures today but I've filed down some of the sloppy greenstuff work on the powerfist and redone the plasticard and scope on the plasma blaster to make it neater. Also, I've started to file down the Imperial Fists insignia on the right knee and the chestplate.

I'm away for 2 weeks but I'll probably take Invictus with me and try to get some more stuff done. I'm hoping to have him assembled by the time I get back so I can stick on the brass etch (which I'm still waiting for), do the base and paint it all. It's gonna be a bit hectic towards the end by the looks of things!

Captain Invictus WIP III

One of the trickiest parts of the project, I took the removed the fingers from the terminator power fist and replaced them with the fingers from the pointing power armour power fist. The putty work looks a lot better in real life, I assure you!

Captain Invictus WIP II

Done a bit more work on him. Mostly filing off mold lines but I've focused mainly on the right arm; cutting the stormbolter off of the terminator arm and creating the plasma blaster.

Invictus Concept

Here's a concept sketch I knocked together so I have a rough outline of what I'll be doing once I've got all the pieces in front of me. I'm collecting the Captain Lysander model from my local GW tomorrow so after that all I'll need is the Forge World brass etch.

Games Day

Right, I haven't died and I am still painting Ultramarines. There are currently three Ultramarines of Squad Epsilon in various stages of completion sitting on my desk, but that's not why I'm posting.

I bought my Games Day 2008 ticket today and am starting to gather the necessary pieces for a planned entry in to the Godlen Demon Youngbloods, since it's the last year I'll be eligible. The plan is to create the legendary Captain Invictus from a Captain Lysander model, some plastic terminator arms, some plasma guns, guitar string, UM brass etch, resin shoulder pads and a shizzle load of dead nids. I'll keep you posted.
